Wyoming Community Foundation

Benefiting the Wyoming area since 1992

The Wyoming Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of Grand Rapids Community Foundation, evaluates local needs and opportunities and looks to fund projects that address the areas of art & culture, community development, education, environment, health, or social needs and that:

  • represent an innovative, start-up effort or are capital in nature
  • promote cooperation among agencies without duplicating services
  • serve the greater city of Wyoming area
  • obtain the necessary additional funding to implement and maintain the project
  • strengthen or improve agency self-sufficiency or efficiency
  • yield substantial community benefits for the resources invested
  • serve a broad segment of the community
  • encourage additional and permanent funding or matching gifts from other donors
  • are managed by nonprofits with a 501(c)(3) status

The Wyoming Community Foundation also has a Youth Advisory Committee that advises grantmaking to organizations working to benefit youth in Wyoming.

APPLY FOR FUNDING

GENERAL GRANTS

The Foundation considers grant applications once/year. After reviewing our grantmaking guidelines, grant applications can be completed online beginning in early July and are due on the second Friday in September. Decisions will be announced by October 31.

Nonprofits that benefit youth may also consider applying for a grant from WCF's Youth Advisory Committee. The deadline for the Youth Advisory Committee grant submission is in early February each year, and decisions are announced in May.

  • Catherine's Health Center - $1,925 supporting tools for chronic disease management.
  • Family Network - $5,000 to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and provide education regarding the impact on health outcomes.
  • Feeding American West Michigan - $5,000 for the Mobile Food Pantry program serving the Wyoming community.
  • The Refugee Education Center - $2,350 supporting K-12 programs for refugee youth during the 2024-2025 school year and summer.
  • WKTV-Southkent Cable TV Commission - $1,925 to preserve and promote veterans' oral histories.

2023 Grants

  • Children's Advocacy Center of Kent County - $1,000 to implement the Kids Have Rights body safety program in kindergarten through fourth-grade classrooms.
  • Family Promise of West Michigan - $2,500 supporting emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness.
  • Hand2Hand - $3,000 for weekend and extended break food and backpacks for Wyoming students.
  • Remembrance Ranch - $2,400 for backpacking equipment.
  • Roosevelt Park Ministries - $2,500 to provide quality child care services for adults taking English (ESL) and computer literacy classes.
  • United Church Outreach Ministry - $2,000 for the Eat Healthy Live Healthy program.
  • West Michigan Community Tennis - $1,000 supporting the AIM for Student Academic & Life Success program.
  • Wyoming High School Robotics Team - $1,000 supporting the 2024 robotics season.

2022 Grants

  • Affinity Mentoring - $1,500 to continue support of the Mentoring Center sites at Godfrey-Lee Early Childhood Center, elementary and middle schools.
  • Hope Gardens - $2,700 to expand hands-on garden programming into daytime STEM lessons at three Wyoming public schools.
  • ICCF Community Homes - $1,500 to support the roof replacement for the 30th Street duplex.
  • Remembrance Ranch - $1,800 to provide backpacking equipment for camp participants.
  • Senior Sing Along - $1,000 for the delivery of music-based programming for seniors in Wyoming care centers.
  • Strategic Workforce Solutions - $1,000 in support of MiCareerQuest 2023, which allows youth to explore career options in high-demand industries.
  • The SOURCE - $5,000 to support people experiencing housing instability in the City of Wyoming.
  • YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids - $1,000 for Youth in Government programming and scholarships to attend the state-wide conference.
